A place of calm

Remember a place where you have felt calm, good and safe. Try to bring the place as vividly to your mind as possible, as if you were watching a video of the place. If you can’t think of a specific place, you can create one in your mind. You can close your eyes if that feels comfortable.

Listen to the sounds in your place of calm

Is it perhaps the wind in the trees, birds singing or the sounds of life coming from your neighbour? Or what? Just listen to the sounds in peace.

What does your place smell like?

What scents do you reach for? What season is it? Maybe it smells like freshly cut grass, seaweed or a bun rising in the oven. You decide.

How does your skin feel?

Is it the breeze or the warmth of the sun? Are your feet in the sand or the water on the beach or under a warm blanket? Think about this calmly, going through your whole body. If you feel someone else's caressing your skin, you can also caress yourself. If you are not alone in your place of calm, who are you with? Does this person bring you security? How is they calming you right now? Who you would like to bring with you to your place of calm?

What do your eyes see?

Look around you for a moment. Try to notice all the little things, colors, shades, details - near and far. Is it morning, is it bright or is it already dusk? Is the light natural light or where does it come from?

Are you moving your body or are you standing or sitting still?

Are you moving your body or are you standing or sitting still? Maybe just moving your feet or doing something with your hands? Also focus on the rhythm of your breathing. Breathe in and out, calmly and over and over again.

If you eat or drink something you can bring to mind how it tastes

If you eat or drink something in your own peaceful place, you can bring to mind how it tastes. You can also pay attention to the atmosphere of the place and, if it is a real place, remember wonderful moments there and how they made you feel. If you want, you can change something about it.


Now notice how you feel after spending time in your very own peaceful place. You can return to your peaceful place at any time you want.
